Wind Energy

The county’s zoning code defines and regulates small wind energy systems.

It permits small wind energy systems by right as accessory uses in most zoning districts, subject to use-specific standards (Appendix B §9-22). These standards address height, setbacks, guyed towers, climbing, blade clearance, building code compliance, noise, net metering, signal interference, lighting, finish, signs, and maintenance and decommissioning.

It defines “small,” “large,” and “utility-scale” “wind energy facility,” but it does not permit large or utility-scale systems (Appendix B §2-2; Appendix B §5-2).
