The city’s codified ordinances establish an affordable housing fund and other affordable housing regulations. The Alexandria Affordable Housing Initiative Account (§3-1-5) supports the preservation and development of affordable housing in the city and is funded through real estate and restaurant sales taxes. The Housing and Community Development chapter (§7-2) outlines the powers that the city has to acquire and develop land, grant or loan funds, and participate in federal and state housing programs in support of affordable housing goals.
