Wildfire is emerging as a natural hazard risk for communities throughout Florida–a state far more familiar with dealing with the consequences of tropical storms, hurricanes, and other coastal events. As the Wildland-Urban Interface continues to grow in Florida, planning and regulatory steps are necessary to reduce wildfire risk to communities and the environment. This case study of Hillsborough County, Florida applies APA's Multihazard Planning Framework for Communities in the Wildland-Urban Interface to evaluate existing planning interventions, regulatory tools, and local standards intended to reduce wildfire risks in the county.
