About Freese and Nichols

FNI is a privately owned planning, engineering, and consulting firm serving clients across the Southwest and Southeast United States. Founded in 1894, we offer stability as a long-term trusted advisor and use our national expertise to meet contemporary challenges. We put relationships first — clients, teaming partners and staff — and seek long-term relationships, many of which are counted in decades, not years.

With 33 offices and 1,100+ employees, FNI offers national-level expertise with a strong local presence. Because we are a regional firm, we make decisions locally, making us responsive, flexible, and adaptable to the needs of our clients, as well as ensuring projects run smoothly and stay on budget.

FNI leads local, regional, and national planning and design innovation that promotes access and empowerment of people, supports equitable and inclusive communities, reimagines the roles that streets and infrastructure can play in local life, and encourages stewardship and healthy neighborhoods.

Planning services we provide include comprehensive plans, downtown plans, transportation plans, corridor studies, land use studies, campus master plans, ordinance development, strategic planning, economic development, urban design, hazard mitigation and resilience, implementation plans, and on-call services/ development administration.

Our award-winning planning team has led more than 200 planning initiatives for cities large and small. We have seen several of our long-term clients grow from populations of less than 5,000 to more than 10 times that size — all strengthened and supported by our sound planning guidance.
