Main Street Corridor Study

NC Capital Area MPO

Raleigh, NC

This project's objective is to conduct a Corridor Study that determines and addresses the critical issues and needs along the Main Street corridor in Rolesville, mainly congestion, mobility, and safety. The study will also evaluate and incorporate land use recommendations from the recent Comprehensive Plan update into the ultimate vision for the corridor, as well as recommendations from the Town's 2014 Bicycle Plan. The consultant should work with the study sponsors and local stakeholders to develop a vision for the corridor, the future transportation elements for that vision, and a strategy for implementation. A robust stakeholder and public engagement strategy should be developed and deployed that will engage citizens, business owners, and property owners in the decisions. The study will provide interim recommendations as well as long-term recommendations based upon a vision that is mutually acceptable to the Town of Rolesville, Capital Area MPO, NCDOT and Wake County.

The study will evaluate the corridor from its northern terminus at US 401 to its southern terminus at US 401, with particular concentration in the town center area between Burlington Mills Road and Bowling Drive. This study will involve not only traffic and engineering analysis, but also a thorough public engagement component and market assessment of the land use recommendations contained in the Comprehensive Plan. The study will also seek to recommend appropriate and feasible connections to the bicycle and pedestrian network planned and partially existing in Rolesville, and will consider future transit connections as recommended in the Wake Transit Plan.
