Development Regulation Update

City of Bozeman

Bozeman, MT

For the entire RFQ, please visit https://www.bozeman.net/government/city-clerk/bids-rfps-rfqs. The City of Bozeman's land use regulations, which include zoning districts and procedures, subdivision review procedures, park and transportation standards, and other generally applicable land development standards, are regularly updated. The City adopted an updated comprehensive plan, the Bozeman Community Plan 2020, in the fall of 2020. The City is updating its land use standards and procedures in accordance with the new plan, revised state enabling legislation, and other identified community priorities and facility planning.

Bozeman has had substantial growth for over 25 years and is now a federally designated metropolitan area. Bozeman is the fourth largest city in Montana and is a leader in land use planning in Montana. The COVID epidemic has exaggerated existing trends and housing demand is very high as are housing costs. The City’s existing standards are available on Municode as Chapter 38 of the municipal code.

The primary objectives of the work are:

  • Improve user friendliness including addition of appropriate graphics;
  • Reorganization as needed to facilitate presentation of related materials;
  • Ensure regulations are consistent with the comprehensive plan and other adopted planning documents;
  • Further development of standards related to sustainability, water conservation, redevelopment, and affordable housing.
