APA NEWS
APA to Trump administration: Do not abandon Paris Agreement

Our future is at risk, said APA President Kurt Christiansen, FAICP, in his statement to the Trump administration and Congressional leaders today following news of the United States' intent to withdraw from the landmark Paris Climate Agreement. APA believes that climate change is one of the most important planning challenges of the 21st century requiring local, national, and global action. As our members actively engage in adaptation and mitigation to make our communities safer and stronger, APA is embarking on its third update to its Policy Guide on Climate Change. Additionally, APA is providing comments to the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis, calling for new policies.

As an APA member, you can join the member-only Planners' Advocacy Network to be kept updated on policies that impact your work.

Save the date for Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday — the international day of giving on the Tuesday after U.S. Thanksgiving — is December 3. The APA Foundation is committed to strengthening communities through planning, scholarships that help our profession reflect the diversity of our communities, research that equips planners to respond to opportunities and challenges, and community assistance that brings the power of planning to communities in need.

Join our growing community of donors and help us empower planning and strengthen communities by remembering the APA Foundation as you make your Giving Tuesday contributions. On December 3, donate on our website or look for our Giving Tuesday fundraiser on the APA Facebook page.

Historic PAS Report: Capital Improvement Programming

Capital Improvement Programs (CIP) prioritize and schedule public physical improvements for communities. The CIP is an important tool in implementing a community's vision but, in 1961, only about one-fourth of U.S. cities with a population greater than 10,000 had one. This historic PAS report discusses the importance for developing a CIP and offers planners a primer in managing the process.
