Data centers are the physical location of the Internet. On the outside, data centers or cryptocurrency mining facilities may appear like commercial or light industrial uses, however these facilities can impact the built environment in different ways. Increased use of utilities such as electricity and water, noise production, and safety make it important for communities to define and regulate data centers and cryptocurrency mining facilities. Further, these facilities and centers are moving into smaller metropolitan and even nonmetropolitan areas. Get ideas on local zoning approaches that might be replicable in your community in this Zoning Practice.
