The City of Auburn, a dynamic and progressive university community, located in East Central Alabama (83,000 pop.), is currently searching for a Planner.

This position is one of five (5) planner positions in a department of eight (8) members.

This position is primarily responsible for assisting in administering planning and development activities for the City. Some of the major duties of this position are the processing of applications permitted under the zoning ordinance, either by right or conditionally; the review of subdivision plats to determine compliance with the City subdivision regulations; site plan review and issuance of zoning certificates; the review and processing of applications for variances; assisting in the review of annexation requests; assisting the principal planner with updating the City's comprehensive plan; and in the correction and updating of maps and records.

The Planning Department places an enhanced emphasis on streamlining departmental workflow and increasing efficiency, while also developing teams and participative approaches to problem-solving.

A baccalaureate degree in urban planning or a closely related field and at least one to two years of experience in a comparable field are required. AICP certification is preferred.

The salary range is $4,953.58 - $5,845.23/month, depending upon qualifications. The City of Auburn has an excellent benefits package.
