The City of Columbia is seeking an experienced and motivated professional to join its team-oriented staff as a Senior Planner. Qualified candidates will enjoy the opportunity to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment that includes assignments in both current and long-range planning. Assignments will range from complex case management of development applications to neighborhood planning initiatives as well as other regulatory updates to ensure efficient and effective administration of the City's regulatory processes. The position will also have the opportunity to work on transportation-related planning projects as part of the City's metropolitan planning organization (MPO) CATSO.

The ideal candidate for this position will be a highly organized, self-starter capable of delivering exceptional customer service both internally and externally. Experience in contributing to a major regulatory initiative is highly desired. Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, is essential.

The City is preparing to update its award-winning 2013 Comprehensive Plan and the chosen candidate will collaboratively work with senior Division staff, other City departments, and an outside consultant to guide the update process to completion. Opportunities to be directly involved in the coordination of an enhanced public participation process, identification of new goals and objectives addressing topics such as housing affordability as well as equity and inclusion, and drafting of a tension's mitigation chapter for the updated comprehensive plan would be essential tasks assigned to the chosen candidate.

The City of Columbia is centrally located in the State of Missouri, has direct access to Interstate 70, and is less than 2 hours from either St. Louis or Kansas City. The City is home to the University of Missouri, the State's flagship academic institution, Columbia College, Stephens College and Moberly Area Community College (MACC).
