The team is made up of seven staff members and includes a range of planning functions, including comprehensive planning, neighborhood planning, land development, zoning, historic preservation, public art, and redevelopment and land bank.
Job requirements are diverse and highly responsible.
Examples include:
- Plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates the work of City Planning employees.
- Identifies and facilitates staff development opportunities.
- Manages the formulation and update of relevant policies and regulations, such as Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance, Zoning Ordinance, and Official Map.
- Evaluates proposed land developments to ensure compliance with relevant laws and to facilitate outcomes that reflect best practices in site planning.
- Scopes, initiates, and manages (directly or through staff) neighborhood or area plans.
- Oversees and advances the overall urban design quality of the City, including signature architectural projects, public / civic spaces, and placemaking.
- Supervises the historic preservation function of the Bureau and promotes the stewardship of the City's historic and cultural resources.
- Develops and utilizes planning and development data and analysis.
- Meets with public officials, individuals, and organizations to present and discuss the goals and objectives of the Planning Bureau.
- Presents both written and oral reports on planning and development-related matters to elected and appointed officials, organizations, and the public.
- Prepares applications for State and Federal grants and carries out the work programs contained in such grant awards through effective use of subordinate staff.
- Oversees the work of consultants hired by the City to perform planning-related projects.
- Prepares annual Bureau budget and monitors expenditures throughout the year.
