URL: https://www.barrington.ri.gov/247/Employment-OpportunitiesThe Town of Barrington, RI is accepting applications for a full-time DIRECTOR OF PLANNING BUILDING AND RESILIENCE. This Department Head position is responsible for the supervision and administration of the Department of Planning, Building and Resiliency, which includes three full-time employees — the Building and Zoning Enforcement Official, the Communications and Economic Development Officer, and the Planning/Zoning Assistant. The Director also manages three part-time positions — the Department's administrative assistant, an electrical inspector, and a mechanical/plumbing inspector — and a Resilience planning consultant and a consultant position that administers the Town's home repair program and a financial assistance program for those in need.
The Director will take the lead on all planning and resilience functions of the Department, working in coordination with the Planning/Zoning Assistant, Communications and Economic Development Officer and consulting Resilience Planner. This includes reviewing plans for compliance with the Town's Land Development and Subdivision regulations and zoning bylaws; providing memorandums and administrative support to the Planning Board, and Technical Review Committee; managing the development of plans including the 10-year Comprehensive Plan update, Complete Streets implementation plan, a new Climate Action Plan, and two State planning initiatives involving the Town (all ongoing); planning community engagement events and messaging; developing the annual Capital Budget and 6-Year Capital Improvement Program. In addition, the Department is responsible for writing and administering grants and implementing various planning initiatives.
Ideal Candidate: Strong leadership and supervisory skills to lead and further develop our Planning, Building and Resilience Team; Possess comprehensive knowledge of municipal planning and familiarity with the functions of a building and zoning enforcement office.
Requirements: Bachelor's Degree in Planning, Public Administration, or related field (Master's Degree is preferred); at least seven (7) years of responsible experience in planning, preferably including some in a position that managed staff; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with Municipal Government desired; strong interpersonal and written communication skills required.
Certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners-(AICP) preferred.
Understanding of GIS System – a plus
Salary Range: $95,000 - $108,000. Annual salary will commensurate based on qualifications and experience. Full Benefit package available.
