DEFINITION:

Under general direction within the Economic & Community Development Office performs professional level planning work is responsible for developing and administrating comprehensive plans, programs and contracts for land use, zoning, public utilities community facilities, housing or transportation, of both short and long range in nature.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Performs more complex planning assignments in preparing and reviewing plans, designs, estimates, ordinance amendments, zoning map amendments, conditional use permits, subdivision plats, and research studies.
  • Participates in the compilation of data used in the analysis and development of the comprehensive plan and in its application to various community projects.
  • Prepares comprehensive plans including, but not limited to: site plans, zoning/rezoning cases, conditional use cases, and other planning & development related case reviews.
  • Interacts with the general public, land development professionals and staff from other agencies on responding to planning questions and problems. Makes presentations at community meetings and other public forums.
  • Researches and tracks grant eligibility, requirements, and submittal deadlines, and prepare grant applications, monitor work programs and prepare narrative reports. Conducts field checking for application sites against actual development site conditions, writes findings or facts.
  • Prepares written reports, studies, ordinances, plans, requests for project proposals, site analyses, field observations and graphic illustrations of site plans using sound planning principles, practices and regulations.
  • Leads planning projects to completion, on time and within budget and be able to oversee work performed by consultants to ensure all tasks and deliverable are completed.
  • Represent Municipal interests, presents plans and provides assistance as requested for unanticipated land use, design and public facility issues to the Assembly, Administration, Planning Commission or other governmental boards and agencies.
  • Acts as project lead on major planning project.
  • Drafts resolutions, ordinances, and memoranda for Assembly consideration, including reviewing/drafting of amendments to title 21, the Land Use Code.
  • Other duties as assigned.
