Anticipated hiring salary is between $82,650 - $97,236 depending on qualifications.

The Associate Planner works under general supervision to perform mid-level tasks supporting the planning team, including but not limited to, transportation, land use, infrastructure planning, resiliency, and master planning. The incumbent may also provide project leadership for specific planning initiatives; coordinate activities with agencies and other interested parties; analyze planning and environmental issues; work on special projects; and perform other related work as assigned.

  • Provides technical planning support, with a focus on facility statistics and resilience, in alignment with organizational goals and initiatives spanning a wide range of topics, including policy development, project budget/consultant tracking, and port facility design.
  • Develops graphics, illustrations, maps, and a variety of communication materials related to strategic and business planning initiatives. This work may include coordination with other port departments and may include consultant support and oversight.
  • Researches, organizes, and analyzes information to assist the planning team with a variety of planning projects and initiatives. Evaluates findings, identify significant issues, determine options, and draft recommendations.
  • Coordinates and manages port facility data related to the physical space, infrastructure, and operational capabilities. Serves as a resource for technical facility data. Shares data, and awareness of data availability, both in writing and verbally.
  • Coordinates communications, outreach, and engagement with internal and external teams and stakeholders to advance planning programs and projects. May attend public meetings in a technical or advocacy role.

Required Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Urban or Regional Planning or a related field is required.

Two (2) years of professional level planning experience is required. Must possess (or obtain within two years of employment) American Planning Association - American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification.

Must be able to work with tight deadlines, multi-task and be flexible in a fast-paced environment. Must demonstrate ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality at all times. Must be professional and possess excellent relationship building, interpersonal, and public relations skills. Must be proficient with computer software programs including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Must be skilled in coordinating travel both domestic and international. The incumbent must be highly professional, possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, detail oriented, and be a team player with a strong work ethic.

The successful candidate must possess (or obtain within 30 days of employment) a valid driver's license. Candidate must be able to successfully complete a background investigation. Candidate must also be able to obtain/maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC), which is a program managed by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
