Job Summary:

Performs a variety of managerial, professional and technical duties as needed to plan, organize, direct and coordinate the daily operation of the Planning and Building Department. Oversees the development and implementation of comprehensive current and long range master planning. Directs the Planning Department; develops, implements, evaluates and revises department policies, practices, priorities, methods and procedures in order to improve efficiency and effectiveness of planning functions; serves as administrative advisor and liaison to City Council, Planning & Zoning Commission; provides development review, special redevelopment programs, annexations, Urban Renewal, Central Business District initiatives; receives directives, implements options and strategies; coordinates personnel, contractors, consultants and resources as needed to accomplish projects and programs; provides information and assists developers, the business community and the public on land use, planning and development related matters.

Experience and Training:

Minimum Education: Required a Bachelor's degree in Urban or Regional Planning, Architecture, or a combination of related disciplines. Master's degree in Urban Planning preferred.

Job Requirements: Must hold residence within 25 miles of city limits of Rifle, or move within 25 miles within 6 months of hire for continued employment in position. Valid Colorado Driver's License, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire. Ability to pass a background check that is acceptable to the City of Rifle.

Special Training or Experience: Extensive training and familiarity with urban planning theories, trends, and government guidelines. Certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners preferred.

Work Experience in Positions Similar or Related to This Job: Requires a minimum of 5 years of increasing experience as a Planner and/or Planning Director. Demonstrated supervisory experience is preferred.

Reporting Relationships:

This Position Reports to: City Manager.

This Position has Supervisory and/or Management Responsibility for: All Planning, Building and Main Street Department personnel.

This position is full-time, exempt with benefits including Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life insurance, as well as retirement, vacation, sick, and holiday pay. The wage range for this position is $92,772 -$114,494 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. City of Rifle is an EOE. This position closes on Monday, October 7th.
