ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducts research and makes recommendations on City Code of Ordinances, the City's Comprehensive Plan, and other long-range plans including the Community Redevelopment Agency Plan.
  • Attends intergovernmental meetings as directed.
  • Successfully interacts with the public to include public officials, internal department Leadership, external agencies and community stakeholders to advance "win/win" initiatives.
  • Effectively interfaces with developers, contractors, architects, and other government organizations in order to identify barriers/concerns and formulate solutions consistent with the City's goals and plans related to commercial and residential development, redevelopment and general sustainability.
  • Facilitates and directs public meetings.
  • Serves on appropriate boards/committees in order to represent the City.
  • Conducts targeted research and makes recommendations pertaining to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Assists in the development and administration of grant applications and grant programs.
  • Responsible for coordinating Board meetings to include, scheduling, preparing and distribution of agenda packets; ensures that Boards maintain a full membership.
  • Creates, reviews and presents agenda items for City Council, various City Boards and community workshop meetings.
  • Assists in developing specifications for and implementing of GIS software and assists with management as needed.
  • Performs special projects as assigned.
  • Responsible for administration of the City's Community Redevelopment Area. Recommends redevelopment and development activities and projects.
  • Performs other related work as required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position does not supervise other Staff unless otherwise assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Graduation from a fully accredited College or University with a Master's degree in Urban Planning or related field and one (1) year of related experience. Three (3) years of professional experience in land use planning as a municipal planning and zoning professional, an Undergraduate degree in Urban Planning or related field may be considered. Experience working with GIS hardware and software utilizing topographic maps and relational databases is preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and training.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, REGISTRATIONS

A valid Florida Drivers' License with safe driving record is required to be maintained for this position. Membership in the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) or qualification for membership in AICP is preferred.

The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing duties of this job, the employee has extensive public contact, requiring numerous interruptions in workflow, the ability to effectively communicate, listen and resolve problems/conflicts. The noise level in the work environment is usually low-to-moderate.
