Primary duties include reviewing and analyzing variances, special exceptions, rezonings and other land use petition requests; preparing and presenting land use petition reports to the Board of Zoning Appeals and Area Plan Commission; and interacting with and providing information to the public, neighborhood leaders, builders, land owners and the development community.

The Planner I also works on comprehensive / long-range planning activities, as well as zoning and subdivision ordinance revisions and special projects as assigned.

The position demands strong written and verbal skills, adaptability, a collaborative spirit and a solution-focused ethic.

The Planner I will work a conventional 8:00-4:30, Monday-Friday schedule and will work, on average, two evenings per month.

Three years of experience in a planning environment is desired, as is a working knowledge of planning law and theory.
