The City of Ames is a thriving community looking for an experienced Planner interested in municipal planning for development review and long-range planning activities.
The Planner will be a team member of the Planning Division and work under general supervision of the Planning and Housing Director. Our planners work independently to implement the City's development standards, including zoning, subdivision, and other regulations, the City's Comprehensive Plan, and administration of neighborhood programs. The successful candidate may have a wide range of responsibilities that include working directly with customers on development permitting, zoning, subdivision, code compliance and inquiries; long-range planning, research, and policy development; and representation of the City with neighborhoods or other interest groups.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in planning, geography, urban design, or closely related field, and four years experience in private or municipal government planning office, one year of internship may substitute for a year of experience.
- Valid Iowa driver's license
- Must be able to attend various assigned evening meetings such as Planning & Zoning Commission, Zoning Board of Adjustments, etc.
