Education and Experience:

• Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in urban or regional planning, public administration, architecture, or a related field.
• Eight (8) years of increasingly responsible administrative government experience in planning, building, housing, or a related field.
• Five years of management experience.

Licenses and Certifications:

• Possession of a valid California Driver's License, to be maintained throughout employment.

Skills/Abilities:

• Lead the $200M planned investment in the redevelopment of the City's downtown over the next 5-7 years through a new Downtown Revitalization Specific Plan.
• Partner with the Director of Economic Development to negotiate the best possible urban design and community benefits as you work with our development industry partners
• Be a working Director. Support your team by both empowering your staff with authority and responsibility to do great work, and also by being hands-on in the development process where your expertise and skill can make the biggest difference
• Be successful in the nuts and bolts of Department Head life – managing budgets, handling contract services, coaching the team and handling personnel matters, making great presentations, and building working relationships with your fellow Directors and City Management folks
