Position Description: Under general direction, performs supervisory, administrative and professional work for the Planning Division. Work involves researching, analyzing and developing plans, policies and zoning ordinance regulations, as well as making recommendations for planning projects and studies pertaining to land development use, community development, transportation, and cultural and natural resources. Develops land use plans, transportation plans, both local and regional, and assists in developing plans and policies for maintenance and protection of City-owned riparian lands in five upriver jurisdictions. Works with different Departments on the implementation of Capital Improvements projects that originate in City plans. Work involves the strategic planning and prioritization of transportation improvements within the City and assisting the coordination of those projects with the Transit / Transportation Director and Assistant City Manager for Capital Projects.

The Principal Planner also supervises the Zoning Administrator and subordinate professional and technical planning staff and performs administrative functions for the department.

Education, Experience and Credentials: Applicants should have any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Master's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in planning, community development, or related field. A minimum five (5) years' of experience performing planning studies.

The City's hiring range for this position is expected in the $90,000 - $110,000 range depending upon qualifications and experience.
