The Senior Community Engagement Manager is responsible for raising awareness and engagement among Atlanta residents. This includes communicating with the community about current Atlanta Beltline issues, ensuring active and meaningful community participation in Atlanta Beltline matters, and providing substantive information and responses to community concerns, issues, and inquiries to Atlanta Beltline, Inc. and related partners and organizations.

The Senior Community Engagement Manager plays a critical role in community-related activities, including the implementation of the Community Engagement Framework for the Atlanta Beltline. They are responsible for directing the community engagement team to ensure robust community engagement in the implementation of the Atlanta Beltline and promoting the Vision, Mission, and Core Values of ABI while fostering a collegial work environment.

Essential Functions (specific duties/responsibilities)

  • Leads in the development of the community engagement team's annual goals and objectives
  • Organizes and leads department staff meetings
  • Plans, organizes, and facilitates in person and virtual public meetings
  • Implements and continually refines virtual meeting strategies for community engagement
  • Coordinates, reviews, and finalizes external presentations
  • Updates the community on the progress of the Atlanta Beltline
  • Participates in neighborhood, NPU and other meetings related to the Atlanta Beltline
  • Leads community outreach efforts digitally and on the ground in the community
  • Serves as Community Engagement Project Manager for Subarea Master Plans, property redevelopment engagement, and consultant contracts
  • Gives presentations to businesses, universities, and professional conferences
  • Provides tours of the Beltline to community members, stakeholders, business owners, students and local, national and international delegations
  • Serves as a backup liaison for the Beltline Design Review Committee
  • Non-traditional work hours including regular night meetings and occasional weekend responsibilities

Required Education and Experience:

  • Master's degree in city or Regional Planning or a related field
  • 5 years of increasingly responsible experience in planning, community engagement, land use, zoning, and development
  • AICP certification desired (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

Competencies:

  • Knowledge of the principles, practices and trends in comprehensive planning and zoning
  • Strong community engagement and customer service capabilities
  • Familiarity with the City of Atlanta's Neighborhood Planning Units (NPU's) and other community organizations
  • Proficiency in community engagement tools and modern technologies
  • Competence in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), spreadsheets, and database management
  • Skilled in public speaking and delivering impactful presentations
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities
  • Strong interpersonal, public relations, and political relationship-building skills
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced environments while managing and prioritizing multiple deadlines
  • Proven project management and strategic planning experience
  • Ability to delegate tasks effectively and appropriately
  • Collaborative mindset with a demonstrated ability to work across multiple departments
  • Aptitude for planning and organizing complex projects with clear actionable steps
  • Ability to appreciate and understand diverse perspectives and backgrounds
  • Experience in conducting planning and policy-related research
  • Familiarity with community issues related to transportation, park and trail development, economic development, and affordable housing
  • Skilled at de-escalating tense or emotional situations
  • Strong community engagement and customer service capabilities
  • Understand the impacts of institutional and systemic barriers on marginalized communities and commit to integrating equity and inclusion throughout all facets of your work.
