The Beaufort County Planning and Zoning Department welcomes applications to assist in managing the first ever South Carolina Green Space Program. This is an exciting opportunity to participate in land conservation and meaningful environmental stewardship. Beaufort County has a rich history in these efforts and the Green Space program will solidify the County in being a leader in the state.
The primary purpose of this position is to assist in implementing the Beaufort County Green Space Program and general Planning Department environmental initiatives. The work is performed under the direction of the Green Space Program Manager and under general direction of the Planning and Zoning Department Director.
What you will do with us:
- Perform professional, technical, and administrative work in support of the Beaufort County Green Space Program and coordinates with varying applicants and agencies in the implementation of conservation objectives.
- Assist in managing the Beaufort County Green Space Advisory Committee and maintains all documentation required for the County's Green Space Program, including meeting minutes, agendas, correspondence, newsletters, databases, maps, project folders, applications, and reports, etc.
- Assist the Green Space Program Manager in developing relationships with various Beaufort County departments, land trusts, conservation groups, agricultural stakeholders, SC Conservation Bank, USFS, SCDNR, MCAS Beaufort, and other key agencies/stakeholders.
- Assist in identifying collaborative partnerships and creative funding sources to leverage Green Space funding, including grant opportunities.
- Prepare studies, assessments, and reports associated with land preservation and resiliency planning.
- Participate in program marketing and public relation efforts; including public education and outreach, development and maintenance of website content, dissemination of print media, and regular progress update presentations.
- Work with the Green Space Manager to coordinate with the County's Legal Department on real estate closing activities.
- Coordinates and manages projects and activities with other county and state departments and federal agencies, applicable land trust organizations, and municipalities as appropriate.
- Prepare and distributes agendas for the Beaufort County Green Space Advisory Committee.
- Develop progress reports for Green Space project implementation and presents accordingly to the Green Space Advisory Committee.
- Attend meetings, conferences, workshops and training sessions and reviews materials to become and remain current on the principles, practices and new developments in land conservation and planning.
- Review existing regulations and plans; makes recommendations for modification to the Green Space Advisory Committee, Planning Commission, and/or County Council, as appropriate.
- Assist in coordinating department activities and functions with those of other county departments, municipalities, and outside agencies as appropriate.
- Perform routine administrative/clerical work as required, including entering and retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents, assembling materials, typing reports and correspondence, etc.
- Perform other related job duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in planning, geography, landscape architecture, architecture, environmental studies, or related field plus two or more years of directly related work experience in land use planning or a related field;
- Master's degree preferred
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
- Design and drawing skills a plus
- American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification preferred
