Fernley was established in 1905 and incorporated as a city in 2001 with a population of 8,543. In the last two decades, the city has nearly tripled in population to approximately 25,000 and continues to add industry, jobs, and residents every year. Current development discussions indicate that the city could double in the next 10-15 years. The city is currently in the process of master planning 27,000 acres of vacant land with developers lining up to seize the endless development opportunities.

Under direction by the Planning Director, the Senior Planner plays a key role in the function of the department. As a project manager, team leader, and workload coordinator the Senior Planner is a unique opportunity to play several important roles in the organization. Examples of the duties include:

• Plans, directs, coordinates, and reviews the work plan for the department; assigns work activities projects, and programs.
• Reviews complex development proposals and works with developers to reach agreement on acceptable site plans.
• Presents to Planning Commission, City Council, community groups, and outside agencies.
