(APD-U) is seeking to fill a full-time GIS Analyst position to create, manage, and analyze spatial data and perform raster and vector-based analysis for reporting and decision-making in our planning and community development work. We are looking for a creative, highly motivated, detail-oriented GIS Analyst with a strong background in applied statistics or machine learning techniques and GIS software applications. The ideal candidate must be extremely detail-oriented, compassionate, friendly, helpful, and self-motivated, with a positive attitude and strong work ethic. APD-U is a planning firm focused on urban neighborhood revitalization and community development. Our firm consists of experienced professionals in multiple disciplines including neighborhood and urban planning, community redevelopment, construction management, real estate development.
Primary job tasks include but are not limited to:
- Collect, create, and maintain demographic, housing, environmental, and point-of-interest data in geodatabases for use in maps and dashboards.
- Use ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and other software to display data and data analyses in a clear and informative way, including but not limited to the production of spatial and statistical analyses of demographic and other neighborhood, city, or regional data.
- Create and maintain online maps and dashboards for presentations and clients.
- Create and maintain documentation of workflow processes.
- Create and maintain scripts that automate data cleaning, processing, and analysis.
- Create and maintain informative data visualizations through applied statistical methodology, code, or geodatabases.
- Perform complex geospatial and/or data analysis.
- Develop new data collection, visualization, and analytical methods that enhance the firm's ability to analyze community information.
- Write metadata for any data collected and GIS analyses completed.
- Assist in field surveys and inventories as needed.
- Assist with other neighborhood/community planning and business development-related tasks as required.
Minimum Qualifications, Experience, and Training
This position requires a combination of skills, experience, and education including but not limited to:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or another quantitative field with demonstrated experience in the urban, city, or regional planning fields, OR Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning or Geographic Information Systems, with some experience in software development and or data science fields.
- A minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in related fields.
- Basic proficiency skills in Python, R, or SQL.
- GIS Proficiency — both with open source and ESRI suite of products.
- One (1) to three (3) years of experience developing and managing GIS projects with some involvement in urban, neighborhood, or community planning activities and/or research.
- Demonstrated knowledge of applied statistics or machine learning techniques to urban and city planning challenges.
- One (1) to two (2) years manipulating data sets, visualizing data, building statistical models, and the general application of data science concepts and tools within the domain of urban or city planning or consulting.
- Experience automating GIS workflows (Python scripting or Model Builder); two (2)- three (3) years highly preferred.
- Excellent with Microsoft Office 365 Apps (Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
- Experience building dashboards and using data visualization tools.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience with Microsoft's Office 365 Apps (Office, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to analyze, present, and report on qualitative and quantitative data.
