The City of Omaha Planning Department is seeking a city planner to join our Long Range Planning section.

The City of Omaha is the largest city in the State of Nebraska located on the Missouri River covering over 140 square miles with a population of 487,000 and a population just under a million in the Omaha metropolitan area.

The Omaha Planning Department is made up of three divisions: Permits and Inspections, Housing and Community Development and Urban Planning. The Long Range Planning section is within the Urban Planning Division along with Urban Design, Current Planning and Economic Development.

This new position will be part of a team focused on the development of a comprehensive plan update and implementation upon approval. This will be the first comprehensive plan update in over 25 years and will be a major undertaking to create the next vision for Omaha.

Omaha is quickly running out of land for greenfield development, which means Omaha's new plan will pivot from managing suburban development to maximizing infill and redevelopment. This position will be involved with every aspect of this multi-year process from public engagement / education to crafting the plan.

Education / Experience

Bachelor's degree and/or experience in city planning, economic or community development, finance, real estate, environmental consulting, or sustainability.
