The Senior Planner is a member of the Comprehensive Planning team, which primarily manages long-range citywide, neighborhood, and corridor planning projects and staffs the rezoning, annexation, and demographic programs. Senior Planners provide advanced professional planning work and are considered subject matter experts with the highest level of knowledge, providing consultation to other planning staff and to management. They may serve as lead workers, project managers, and team members supporting Comprehensive Planning projects.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the development of long-range and strategic planning.
- Provide planning and analytical support to annexation and rezoning programs, including management of caseload.
- Support the division's projects, including acting as project manager and management of consultants.
- Coordinate, attend and facilitate meetings; prepare agendas and technical materials; review activity status, timelines and resource allocation; monitor and evaluate consultant work; prioritize and schedule work and activities.
- Prepare and present planning and development-related reports and technical program information to City Council, Boards, Commissions, and/or internal and external stakeholders and groups; provide technical consultation and serves as a liaison by providing information and responding to requests.
- Identify, develop, implement and maintain processes and practices that encourage, support and promote effective, comprehensive and meaningful citizen engagement.
- Assist in the development of long-range and strategic planning; participate in budget development, preparation, and administration.
Typical Qualifications
Qualified applicants have either a Bachelor's degree in planning or public administration or other related field and five years of related professional planning experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
