We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Planning Principal to lead and enhance our planning services. This role will involve driving urban planning strategies across diverse projects and collaborating with talented teams to tackle complex challenges and build thriving communities. The Planning Principal will engage with our various offices across Ohio, including Toledo, Cleveland, Akron, and Columbus.
What You'll Contribute to OHM Advisors
As a Principal Planner, you will help lead and shape our Columbus, Ohio PLACE Studio (Planning, Landscape Architecture, Community, and Environment), guiding teams in delivering impactful projects. You will be key in driving business development, managing high-profile client relationships, and overseeing project teams. This role requires a strategic thinker and strong communicator with expertise in city and regional planning, urban design, and land use policy. You will play an essential role in growing our planning practice and ensuring that OHM remains a leader in the field.
Your Responsibilities:
- Assist in leading and manage the Ohio planning practice in areas such as community and urban planning, transportation planning, land use, and zoning strategies, focusing on both business development and project delivery.
- Collaborate with leadership to create and implement a strategic plan for growth in Ohio, identifying new market opportunities and fostering client development.
- Oversee project teams, ensuring the successful execution of complex planning initiatives from conception to implementation.
- Serve as a primary client liaison, building and maintaining strong relationships with public agencies, municipalities, private developers, and community stakeholders.
- Mentor and develop staff, promoting a collaborative, inclusive, and innovative work culture.
- Work with internal teams in architecture, engineering, and landscape design to deliver integrated interdisciplinary solutions.
- Advocate for sustainable, equitable, and resilient planning approaches that reflect current trends and address future needs, in alignment with OHM's mission and vision.
- Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources to ensure timely and successful project outcomes.
- Represent the firm at conferences and industry events to promote our planning services and showcase our thought leadership.
Requirements:
Education, Experience & Licensure:
- Degree in urban planning, City and Regional Planning, Urban Design, or a related field.
- 10+ years of professional experience in urban planning, demonstrating success in leadership roles and project management.
AICP certification preferred. - Extensive experience working with public sector clients.
- Proven ability to lead large, multidisciplinary teams and manage complex, high-profile projects.
- Strong knowledge of land use planning, zoning, transportation, infrastructure, and environmental policy.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to develop new business and foster client relationships.
- A passion for creating sustainable, equitable, and vibrant communities.
