JOB DESCRIPTION

The Bicycle & Pedestrian Planner supports Go Georgia's planning, policy, and advocacy work while carrying out day-to-day operations of our Grants Assistance Program (GAP), which supports Georgia communities by improving access to bike/walk/roll funding.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Planning, Policy, and Operational Support

  • Develop local bike/ped plans
  • Assist with Go Georgia's coordination of regional bike/ped planning throughout the state
  • Conduct research, analyze data, and produce GIS maps and graphics for planning and policy projects
  • Create social media and newsletter content
  • Assist with organizing and hosting Go Georgia's annual Bike-Walk-Live Summit
  • Conduct other duties as assigned by Planning Manager and/or Executive Director

Grants Assistance Program Execution

  • Provide cities and counties throughout Georgia with virtual and in-person consultations related to grant funding
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance by preparing and assisting with grant applications
  • Host educational workshops and trainings (online and in-person) on grant availability, program details, applicant readiness, award administration, and other areas
  • Develop grants-related educational materials (online and print)
  • Create social media and newsletter content to promote GAP services and opportunities
  • Attend educational events in person and online to increase subject-matter expertise

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in community planning, public administration, geography, or very closely related field
  • Exceptionally high level of responsibility, motivation, and self-reliance; ability to set goals and prioritize tasks
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; outstanding public speaking and facilitation abilities
  • Demonstrated personal and professional commitment to active transportation and recreation
  • Proficiency in GIS (Esri) and productivity suites (Google Workspace, MS Office, etc.)
  • Advanced ability to retrieve, analyze, and report on quantitative, qualitative, and geographic data
  • Ability to create informative, attractive graphics, maps, and other visual materials
  • Willingness and ability to become a League Cycling Instructor within 120 days of hire
  • Willingness and ability to travel statewide (approved travel costs reimbursed by Go Georgia)
  • Experience with bike/walk/roll planning, mapping, engagement, policy, and analysis

Preferred

  • Master's degree in community planning, geography, public administration, or very closely related field
  • Knowledge of or experience with relevant state and federal discretionary grant programs, such as Transportation Alternatives, RAISE, etc.
  • Grant-writing experience

LOCATION AND TRAVEL

The Planner must reside in Georgia by time of hire and throughout their tenure with Go Georgia (may be based in any area of the state, with prior Executive Director approval). Periodic travel throughout Georgia and occasional out-of-state travel is necessary. Work-related travel expenses are paid or reimbursed in accordance with state and federal policies, with prior approval.

Work Environment

The Planner will work from a home office, coordinating closely with the Planning Manager on a daily basis and with other staff as needed. The Planner will have opportunities to work directly with partner organizations and advocates in their community.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This position is grant-funded through February 28, 2026 at an annual gross salary of $47,000 - $55,000 (paid monthly) with high likelihood of annual renewal; continuation of the position is dependent on funding, although it is expected to remain a long-term part of the Go Georgia team.

We offer a SIMPLE IRA plan with contributions matched up to 3%. Health-care and home-office stipends are available. Paid vacation begins at 10 days/year and may increase to 15/yr. after 12 months of successful performance; Go Georgia follows the federal holiday schedule (currently 11 days/year); sick leave is consistent with nonprofit sector norms.
