Performs difficult paraprofessional work on a wide variety of assignments in the Department of Planning and Zoning. Does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision.

The hiring range for this position is from $22.73/hour to $31.26/hour based on experience.

The full salary range for this position is from $22.73/hour to $39.78/hour to provide opportunity for growth and development.

Examples of Duties

  • Performs application and plan intake, Quality Assurance and Quality Control review and distribution for the Community Development Service Center, including electronic plan submission; maintains and updates application forms;
  • Acts as front-line contact or triage personnel for the Department, assisting customers with questions on all matters related to planning and zoning, including appropriate application types, subdivision and zoning requirements, and the Comprehensive Plan;
  • Researches property records in relation to citizen inquiries;
  • Assists professional planning staff in carrying out project assignments, including organizing meetings and coordinating with internal and external agencies;
  • Assists in the preparation of plans and proposals;
  • Prepares graphs, tables, maps, visual displays, and other illustrative materials for meetings and reports;
  • Prepares data for inclusion in reports, presentations and planning studies;
  • Assists in the application of various computer software and equipment for planning purposes;
  • Responsible for project management and review of non-complex subdivision and site plan applications;
  • Makes verbal and visual presentations to the Planning Commission for minor waivers of the Subdivision Ordinance;
  • Performs related tasks as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to deal effectively with the public;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and representatives from other public agencies.
  • General knowledge of principles and practices of cartography and graphic presentation;
  • General knowledge of graphic computer software packages;
  • General knowledge of subdivision and site plan review;
  • Ability to prepare quality drawings, charts and graphs;
  • Ability to work outdoors under varying weather conditions;

Education and Experience

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate's degree in planning or a related field and some experience in planning or administrative related experience.
