Acuity Consulting Services, LLC, a multidisciplinary planning, program administration, and allied services firm with offices in NJ, seeks a part-time Project Manager and Technical Specialist Planner with specialty expertise in housing to join our growing team. The position provides the opportunity to work on a wide range of public and private sector planning and housing program administration projects. We offer competitive compensation, and fully remote work opportunities. The successful candidate will be expected to have substantial specialty expertise in planning for housing, housing programs and related items, and must be a self-starter who is able to take initiative and complete assigned tasks efficiently under time constraints.

  • Fully remote position.
  • Representative Tasks include, but are not limited to: Preparation of planning reports, narrative text subsections, analysis, etc., project management including scheduling, oversight of workflows and process, ensuring projects stay on schedule, etc., updating housing program manuals, forms and related documentation (using templates), regulatory analysis, etc. for housing programs and related projects, corresponding with clients to answer questions and provide updates, developing process improvements, completion of reporting and compliance documentation, participating in virtual meetings and/or phone conferences with clients and other technical professionals, assisting with the set-up of new projects, etc. A portion of the work will also involve project management and planning support on planning studies and analyses involving land use, zoning, open space, resiliency, sustainability, economic development, and other topics/subdisciplines.
  • This position provides intermittent part-time hours where, while we anticipate that 5-10 hours of work per week on average would be available, there may be weeks where more or less than 5-10 hours of work per week is available and, therefore, the weekly range of hours is 0-15 hours per week.
  • As we understand that interested applicants may only be able to accommodate a certain number of hours per week, we would discuss a mutually agreeable number of hours per week that the candidate would commit to to being available, which could include any number of hours between 5-15, in order to keep the workload sustainable and facilitate scheduling of predictable workflows.
  • A portion of the work would be able to be completed at any time during the course of the week or weekend at the employee's discretion; however, in order to accommodate virtual client meetings and be responsive to email, availability for at least 3-5 hours per week during the 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. time frame is required.
  • Five or more years of planning experience is required.
  • Experience with affordable housing planning and a working knowledge of the typical regulatory and program requirements for housing is required.
  • Excellent written communication skills for preparing planning reports and related deliverables are required. Writing samples are required for review and consideration.
  • The demonstrated ability to independently manage planning projects and tasks, keep projects on schedule, proactively identify and implement solutions to any challenges during the course of project implementation, and deliver high quality planning narratives, reports, etc. is required.
  • Excellent oral communication skills and an ability to consistently provide excellent customer service via written and verbal communication is required.
  • Proficiency using the various software and web applications needed for remote work and day-to-day work on projects, such as Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace applications, Zoom and/or other virtual meeting platforms, etc. is required.
  • Two or more years of experience in a management position is preferred.
  • A working knowledge of key New Jersey and New York planning statutes and regulations is preferred but not required.
  • The position is fully remote, but includes regular communication with team members and the opportunity to participate in periodic (optional) in-person meetings with the team.
  • The position is hourly and offers a range of $33-$48 per hour, commensurate with experience.
  • The position would be subject to an initial ninety (90) day contract period after which time, depending on work performance and work availability, the contract may be renewed for an amount of time to be determined prior to contract expiration. Depending on performance and work availability, there is a potential for this position to grow into a permanent part-time or full-time remote position.
