Purpose of Classification
We are looking for team members who bring specialized expertise and willingness to build long-lasting relationships. In this position, you will work in a team environment to assist with a broad range of planning needs, including performing planning, zoning, project management, research and development, public engagement, and other development activities for both private and public sectors in the areas of current and advanced planning.
Essential Functions
- Serve as a project manager for writing/updating comprehensive plans, zoning ordinances, small area plans, planning studies, and other planning projects
- Performs current and long-range planning tasks concerning land development, transportation planning, preservation of open space, and historic preservation
- Entitlement Coordination with local agencies, including (annexations, rezones, PUDs, pre-plats, final plats, conditional use permits, etc.)
- Write staff reports for rezoning applications, conditional use permits, ordinances, and related procedures; interpret zoning ordinance and development regulations
- Collect, organize, analyze, and report data and information from various sources, including various governmental entities
- Prepare land use assessments and zoning analyses
- Facilitate public meetings, including community meetings, visioning exercises, character preference surveys, and design charrettes
- Prepare and present information to elected and appointed boards and authorities, local government staff, and citizens
- Coordinate planning and related activities with local and regional government staff
- Conduct programs/project evaluations
- Build stakeholder relationships; prepare and participate in neighborhood meetings
- Write land use and development regulations
- Research planning issues and compose staff analysis/position on projects/programs
- Collaborate with project managers, planners, engineers, and other subject matter experts
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in city, urban or regional planning, urban design, public administration, geography or related field
- 10+ years of related experience in public or private sector planning experience
- Strong project management and leadership skills
- A working knowledge of planning and zoning principles and practices
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to comprehend and interpret federal, state, and local regulations
- Proven written communication skills
- Excellent analytical and research skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Exemplary work ethic
- Availability to attend night meetings
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including strong communication, planning, and organizational skills
Salary & Benefits
Pay Range: $105,000.00 USD - $118,000.00
