The Planner I is responsible for collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and presenting technical planning data related to land use, zoning, environmental concerns, and development projects. Under the supervision of the Senior Planner, this role supports planning initiatives, grant applications, and project implementation for member governments. The Planner I also assists with public meetings, technical assistance, and ensuring compliance with agency standards.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of planning principles, including land use, transportation, environmental planning, and zoning regulations.
- Familiarity with specialized fields such as urban design, economic development, or housing is preferred.
- Strong research and data collection skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and GIS software, including ArcGIS.
- Effective written and oral communication skills for reports, presentations, and citizen interactions.
- Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to address citizen concerns and inquiries.
- Organizational skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Ability to interpret and apply planning regulations to project evaluations and field conditions.
- Experience with graphic design or rendering site plans is desirable.
Qualifications:
- Must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Planning, Urban Studies, Public Administration, Civil Engineering, GIS, or a related field, with at least one (1) year of related work experience.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
- Must be able to travel within and outside of the region for meetings, trainings, and other events.
