The Director of Development and Planning is responsible for all aspects of the city's long-range planning, including the development and implementation of land use regulations and related municipal plans and policies. This executive-level position oversees the city's growth management planning process, including management and integration of citizen involvement, and the development and update of the city's Comprehensive Plan, land use ordinances, codes, and resolutions.

This position provides professional guidance and acts as primary liaison to the city's Planning Commission and the Board of Adjustments. The Director of Planning and Development also works collaboratively with other city departments on the city's development objectives and infrastructure. Work is performed under the general supervision of the City Manager with the expectation that this leadership position exercises considerable initiative and independent judgment, works with limited supervision, and provides clear and concise communication to elected officials, external stakeholders, developers, and other partners.

The ideal candidate has a Master's degree from an accredited college or university in urban planning, architecture, public administration, or a closely related field, and at least eight years' experience in all phases of municipal planning. American Institute of Certified Planners certification is required. Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted for the education/certification requirements.
