Job Description:
Under limited supervision in the City's Planning and Development Services Division, assists the Long-Range Planning Manager with the City's activities relating to Comprehensive Planning, the Capital Improvement Program, transportation projects, Floodplain Management, and various long-range plans. Provides customer service; participates in internal development review meetings; conducts research; and assists with the development, amendment, and implementation of the City's Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Code in coordination with local and state regulations and requirements. Assists the Division in achieving the City's goals and objectives.
Examples of Tasks:
- Performs senior level, professional planning work to produce long range plans; conducts research and provides analysis; interprets statutes and administrative rules.
- Drafts ordinances.
- Edits and revises the Comprehensive Plan, City Center Plan, Special Area Plan, Capital Improvements Program, and other documents.
- Assists with the coordination of City, County, and regional land use and transportation planning.
- Prepares maps and presentations.
- Conducts ongoing review of the Comprehensive Plan to ensure their relevancy to the City's changing population and economy.
- Assists in floodplain management activities.
- Develops programs and projects to further the City's development objectives.
- Meets regularly with development professionals, City staff, and the public.
- Presents at Planning and Zoning Commission, City Council, and CRA Board meetings.
- Assists, as needed, in all other areas of the Planning and Development Services Division and Community Development as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Urban Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Engineering, Public Administration, or related field and three (3) years progressively responsible experience in planning, zoning, and/or land use, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- One (1) year of experience interpreting Florida Statutes preferred.
- Master's degree, AICP certification, and/or Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) certifications preferred.
- Requires a valid Florida driver license.
