This is city planning work at the deputy executive director level. The employee in this class is responsible for assisting the Executive Director in directing the operations of the Philadelphia City Planning Commission and overseeing technical city planning work through subordinate managers. Work includes discussing planning perspectives and issues with the Director and members of City Council and their staff. The employee in this class works with internal and external governmental agencies, civic, non-profit organizations, and other groups and individuals to promote and maintain development and planning programs in the city. Providing technical city planning direction to all planners in the City Planning Commission is a significant aspect of the work. Work is performed under the general direction of the Executive Director.

Minimum Acceptable Training and Experience

The following statement represents the minimum training and experience standards which will be used to admit or reject applicants for tests. Candidates must meet requirements within 30 days after the last date for filing applications.

1. EDUCATION:

Completion of a bachelor's degree program at an accredited college or university with major coursework in city or regional planning, architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, or a related field.

AND

2. GENERAL EXPERIENCE:

Five years of technical city planning experience.

AND

3. SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE:

Four years of supervisory city planning experience.

OR

Two years of managerial city planning experience.

OR

Any equivalent combination of education and experience determined to be acceptable by the Office of Human Resources that has included the completion of a bachelor's degree and the specific experience.

NOTE: Completion of a master's degree in one of the fields listed above may substitute for two years of the general experience requirement.
