The Town of Aberdeen, a growing community located adjacent to Pinehurst and Southern Pines in the NC Sandhills Region, is seeking an experienced individual to join our team as the Town's Assistant Planning & Inspections Director.

Aberdeen is a commercial, industrial, and railroad hub located in Southern Moore County, and is a thriving town full of historical charm. Aberdeen is a designated NC Main Street Community and has an active National Register and Local Historic District, with a growing population of 10,000.

The successful candidate for this position will assist with leading the Town's dynamic Planning & Inspections team, will exhibit capabilities of performing advanced, highly-complex professionial planning activities, the ability to effectively function as the most senior planner under the direction of the Director, and possessing expertise in a wide range of planning and zoning tasks. Assistance with oversight and support of several advisory boards is required and shared among the planning department staff.

This position will require above average abilities to build interpersonal relationships, manage multiple projects with competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment, exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills, demonstrate grant management capabilities, and possessing a broad working knowledge of planning and economic development activities.

Requirements: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university, with a preference of major course work in urban and regional planning, landscape architecture, public administration, business administration, geography, or a related field. GIS skills are also required. A minimum of six years of experience in a Planning field is required; AICP and CZO certifications are preferred. North Carolina planning experience is preferred but not required.
