ABOUT THIS POSITION

The Assistant Planning and Development Director is responsible for organizing, planning, directing, and managing the activities of various divisions of the Planning and Development Department. This Assistant Director oversees the Plan Review Division and provides executive level support to the Development Advisory Board. The position is responsible for $33M of the department budget and oversees three deputy directors and more than 200 staff members. In this position you will have a critical role in supporting the vision and mission of the department and carrying forward the implementation and stabilization of the new ShapePHX initiative.

This position works closely with division heads, team leaders and supervisors in providing technical oversight on issues and problems relating to interpretation and application of codes, ordinances and policies regarding planning, development, construction and inspection. Duties include working with developers, residents, departmental representatives, and the Mayor and City Council offices to resolve problems related to development and city planning. This position exercises considerable initiative and independent judgment and works under the general supervision of the Planning and Development Director. The incumbent in this position is expected to resolve problems of a professional and technical nature and must effectively solve problems facing department management while managing competing priorities.

SALARY

Hiring Range: $146,640.00 - $180,000.00 annually.
