JOB DESCRIPTION
The City of Ottawa is seeking a skilled leader to oversee neighborhood and community services, including planning, zoning, code enforcement, building maintenance, and permitting. This position advises the City Manager, supports the Planning Commission and related boards, ensures compliance with building/environmental codes, and assists with economic and community development initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage planning, zoning, code enforcement, and development projects.
- Review plans, permits, and ordinances for compliance.
- Oversee zoning/code investigations and inspections.
- Prepare reports, budgets, and grant applications.
- Represent the City at meetings and public forums.
- Support boards/commissions and advise on major development issues.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's in Planning, Public Administration, or related field (Master’s/AICP preferred).
- 7+ years professional city/county planning experience.
- 3+ years code enforcement experience.
- 10+ years managerial experience in state/local government preferred.
- Strong communication, leadership, and planning skills.
Compensation:
Grade U: $4,372.80 – $6,121.60 bi-weekly
Residency: City officers must reside within 35 miles of the corporate limits of the City of Ottawa within six (6) months of appointment.
