Regional Planner

The Regional Intergovernmental Council (RIC), serving as the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Charleston, WV region, is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Regional Planner to join our transportation planning team.

This position will work under the supervision of the Transportation Program Manager and in coordination with other MPO staff. The Regional Planner will support a variety of planning efforts, with opportunities to take a lead role on in-house studies and planning projects with the support of the team.

Compensation

Salary Range for this position is $55,000-$65,000

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of regional and local planning studies.
  • Lead preparation of select in-house plans and studies with support from MPO staff.
  • Conduct research and analysis related to land use, transportation, housing, and related planning topics.
  • Perform data collection, mapping, and GIS analysis to support planning projects.
  • Prepare written reports, maps, graphics, and presentations to communicate planning recommendations.
  • Engage with stakeholders, local governments, and the public to support MPO initiatives.
  • Track project progress and contribute to project documentation and reporting.
  • Assist with the development, updating and maintenance of MPO core products.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in any field.
  • Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Public Administration, Transportation, or related field.
  • Familiarity with planning principles, transportation planning, or regional development.
  • Experience or coursework in GIS, data visualization, or demographic analysis.
  • Public engagement or stakeholder coordination experience.
