JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a Senior Planner to perform technical, administrative, supervisory, and professional work, assisting the Planning Director in coordinating the County Planning Department's activities to ensure orderly growth and efficient resource management.

The ideal candidate will primarily manage and enforce land use ordinances (subdivisions, zoning, text amendments) and manage the development review process. This candidate will also participate in critical land use and transportation planning projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise professional, technical, and support staff.
• Manage the development review and development ordinance amendment processes.
• Review, analyze, and make recommendations on major development applications and site plans, ensuring compliance with the County Development Ordinance.
• Represent the County in intergovernmental activities and public meetings, providing formal presentations and responding to citizen inquiries.
• Draft and implement master and subsidiary plans for County development.
• Serve as staff to the Land Use Board, processing applications and preparing essential documentation.

Successful candidates must be proficient in land use regulations, comprehensive planning, and intergovernmental coordination. Experience with staff supervision and public presentation is essential.

We are looking for someone with at least 5 years experience in the planning profession and someone that preferably has an AICP designation and is a Certified Zoning Official through the NC Association of Zoning Officials or can become certified.
