JOB DESCRIPTION

Chesterfield County, Virginia (Richmond-Metro Area), a recognized leader and award-winning local government, is seeking an energetic, collaborative, strategic and detailed oriented thinker who can articulate a clear vision for community enhancement.

The director will provide leadership and general oversight to the department. The director will develop and coordinate a variety of special and continuing housing programs and oversees staff reviews of land development proposals to determine compliance with state code and county code regulation. The director is expected to:

  • Provide administrative leadership to implement goals, objectives, policies, procedures and work standards to meet the department's mission.
  • Consult with citizens, partner organizations, and staff of county, state and federal governments to coordinator community enhancement initiatives.
  • Engage with homeowner's associations, and business and civic groups to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Focus on programs and projects that improve the value, quality, attractiveness and safety of Chesterfield County.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skill in land use and zoning, commercial and residential code enforcement, affordable housing and neighborhood outreach.

Applicants must possess a Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field is required. A minimum of eight years of progressively responsible redevelopment planning experience in a comparable sized or larger community with similar "aging" challenges, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Individuals with an equivalent level of training and/or experience are also strongly encouraged to apply. Certified Zoning Official or Certified Zoning Administrator credential and Certified Property Maintenance Inspector is a plus. Ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills with extensive code enforcement and budget knowledge. Good driving record, pre-employment drug test and extensive background check required.
