The Planner II (long range planning) position is responsible for applying professional standards to planning, administration, coordination, research, and the amendment and implementation of land use plans, annexation applications, land use plan amendments, zone map and text amendments, and project management for development code amendments and special projects as assigned. This position requires friendly and consistent customer service to a variety of groups and individuals including, but not limited to other City employees, Municipal, State, and Federal officials, representatives of neighborhood organizations, business and community organizations, landowners, engineers, and the general public. This includes verbal communication and professional correspondence regarding standards and policies concerning special project proposals, public outreach, permit applications, and other planning office activities. This position works regularly with the City's Community Development Board and City Commission regarding policy development and implementation.
The Planner II class performs professional planning duties in the creation and the review of long range plans, policies, and programs with an increase in the scale and complexity of projects as the mid-level planner position in the City of Bozeman.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Planning, Urban Design, Environmental Science, Geography, Public Administration, or a closely related field; and
- Some (2 – 4 years) experience in planning, urban design, or development review, with at least one year in municipal or county development review or long-range planning; or
- Any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.
