Planning Manager - Design Review | City of Boise

Lead transformative planning and design initiatives in one of the nation's most livable cities. This senior leadership role develops and manages complex planning projects from inception to completion while preparing and implementing forward-thinking policy initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

As Planning Manager - Design Review, you'll oversee urban design, zoning regulations, and historic preservation efforts that shape Boise's built environment. You'll conduct comprehensive design reviews, perform site inspections for zoning compliance, and analyze complex development applications, appeals, and ordinance amendments.

A critical aspect of this position is facilitating and managing two volunteer commissions: the Design Review Committee and Historic Planning Commission. You'll ensure productive meetings, provide strategic direction, and foster meaningful community engagement.

You'll supervise professional planning staff, manage consultants, and present recommendations to the Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council. Working closely with city administration, you'll develop policies, procedures, and strategic initiatives to enhance the effectiveness of design review across the city.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in urban planning, historic preservation, landscape architecture, or related field plus six years of professional experience and two years of management experience required. Master's degree preferred. AICP certification, Architect's License, or Licensed Landscape Architecture highly valued.

Valid driver's license required.
