KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & TOP PRIORITIES

• Lead and support the operations of the department, including the professional and personal growth of the department and team members.
• Lead and develop a culture of continuous process improvement and customer service excellence.
• Reach out to and meet with potential developers to encourage land development and attract primary industry jobs.
• Lead negotiations for development agreements, extraterritorial agreements, annexation agreements, and other development-related agreements.
• Look for ways to streamline codes to encourage infill, job growth, and quality commercial and residential development.
• Collaborate and effectively communicate with internal teams, elected officials, other government agencies, and community stakeholders.
• This is a “working director” position, meaning that in addition to leading the department, the person in this position meets with customers, prepares reports and agenda bills, and performs other staff work as needed to get work done.
• Guide and direct long-range planning and land use regulations. Attends Planning Commission meetings and City Council meetings. Serve as the City’s SEPA responsible official and Shoreline Administrator.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in urban or regional planning, architecture, urban design or a related field. Master's degree preferred. AICP certification preferred;
• Eight (8) years of experience in community development, including five (5) years of supervisory experience;
• Or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
• All applicants must be able to successfully pass a background check process which includes reference checks and criminal history checks, or other.
