THE POSITION

The Broward MPO seeks a highly skilled Senior Transportation Engineer to join our staff of professionals dedicated to advancing transportation innovation. This position provides expert technical leadership in transportation design, safety, operations, and technology. The ideal candidate will apply advanced engineering knowledge to develop and implement cost-effective, data-driven, and transformative transportation solutions that enhance safety, efficiency, and sustainability across the regional network.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Transportation Engineer will lead and support the design and implementation of innovative transportation projects by developing conceptual designs, preparing cost estimates, and recommending strategies to improve safety, performance, and infrastructure hardening. This role involves applying emerging technologies and best practices, overseeing data collection and modeling, managing consultant contracts, and coordinating with federal, state, and local agencies to ensure compliance and successful project delivery. The position requires expert knowledge of advanced engineering design principles, traffic management systems, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), and related software and modeling tools such as VISSIM, Synchro, and TransCAD. Proficiency with design software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, ArcGIS, and Microsoft Project is essential, along with strong analytical, project arrangement, and communication skills. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to interpret technical plans, manage multiple projects effectively, provide mentorship and leadership to staff, and collaborate with various stakeholders to advance the Broward MPO's mission and regional goals.

THE CANDIDATE

Bachelor's degree in engineering plus five (5) years of relevant professional experience. Alternatively, a master's degree may be substituted for one (1) year of professional experience; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job, which may serve as a substitute at the discretion of the MPO. Expert knowledge of advanced engineering design principles, traffic management systems, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), and related software and modeling tools such as VISSIM, Synchro, and TransCAD. Proficiency with design software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, ArcGIS, and Microsoft Project is essential. Professional Engineering license is highly desired.
