The City of Mesquite, Nevada, is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and visionary leader to serve as its next Development Services Director. Reporting directly to the City Manager, this executive-level position oversees planning, zoning, building inspections, business licensing, and code enforcement services while helping guide the City's continued growth and development.
Located in the scenic Virgin River Valley just 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas, Mesquite is a thriving community known for its exceptional quality of life, outdoor recreation opportunities, and strategic approach to growth. The Development Services Director will play a key role in implementing the City's Master Plan, managing development review processes, and fostering positive relationships with residents, businesses, developers, elected officials, and community stakeholders.
The Director is responsible for the overall management and administration of the Development Services Department, including long-range planning, zoning administration, growth management, development review, department budgeting, personnel management, and implementation of the City's planning and development policies. The position serves as a trusted advisor to the City Manager on planning, development, and community growth issues.
The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills; extensive knowledge of municipal planning and development processes; and the ability to navigate complex issues in a collaborative and professional manner. Experience working with elected officials, community groups, and development interests is highly desirable.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in a municipal planning or building department, including four (4) years in a management role.
- Master's degree preferred.
- AICP certification required or the ability to obtain certification within one year of appointment.
