JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of the Community Development Director or designee, this position performs a variety of routine-to-moderately complex technical and professional assignments in city planning, zoning, and community development. Independent judgment is exercised in the application of professional techniques and principles to recurring problems. Opportunities are available for the creative application of the principles and practices of urban planning, community development and neighborhood planning.

This position encourages the managed, orderly growth of the City, through the interactive services of the administration, planning and zoning, building inspection/licensing and code enforcement divisions. Programs provide a balanced blend of active promotion of excellence in design, development, and the adherence to regulatory codes through education and enforcement. Cooperative work is necessary with all involved parties including; federal, state, county and local agencies; Planning & Zoning Board, Development Review Committee; civic and neighborhood groups; individuals, development professionals and businesses.

Supervision is received from professional supervisors who make assignments, keep in touch with progress, and are available for consultation and advice on difficult problems. Work is reviewed through observation and conversation.
