The county's code of ordinances includes standards for solar farms and accessory solar systems within the county. Standards for solar farms address minimum lot size, setbacks, buffers, height, and fencing; farms in the FEMA 100-year flood zone must elevate electrical connections to 1' above BFE (§151.347.V). For accessory solar, ground- or pole-mounted solar collectors must be located behind the principle structure on the property and must also have electrical connections elevated 1' above BFE in the FEMA 100-year flood zone; rooftop solar is regulated through the state building code (§151.347.W). Solar farms and accessory solar systems with 3 or more collectors require special use permits (§151.334-17.400, 410, 420).
