Solar Energy

The city's zoning ordinance allows solar energy collectors in all districts. It permits solar energy collectors in any district to exceed height limitations if structure is an addition to roof and does not block solar access of adjoining buildings (§34-3.26.3.B.ii). Solar energy collectors and other architectural features may extend into required side yard 2 inches for each foot of yard, and into front and rear yards by 3 feet (§34-3.26.7A&B). For residential structures existing prior to the date of the ordinance, allowable percentage lot coverage may be increased by set amounts for solar energy collectors (§34-5.1,2.E).
