Solar Energy

The town's zoning code provides supplemental district regulations for solar energy equipment as an accessory use (Sec. 19-341). The code defines accessory solar energy equipment as systems designed to offset up to 150% of the site's energy needs, with larger systems prohibited. Systems are permitted in all districts with a building permit; the code provides information on application requirements. Systems should be located in least visibly obtrusive areas and must comply with district setback and height requirements. The code offers additional requirements for roof-mounted systems including engineer documentation, mounting location, projections, color, and external disconnect switch requirement. Building-integrated systems may be exempt from some requirements. Ground-mounted systems over 4 SF in size are prohibited.
